Healthcare Infrastructure Development

Healthcare Infrastructure Development

Infrastructure is a key pillar supporting the fundamental aim of promoting improved standards of care and wellbeing for all patients, together with a good experience of the health care system.

Nigeria’s health sector has suffered years of neglect. Promises made over the years are still largely unfulfilled and the bulk of policies and laws still lay dormant without execution. There is a lack of coordination, a fragmentation of services, shortage of medical resources, including drugs and supplies, IV fluids, syringe and vacutainer, inadequate and decaying infrastructure, inequity in resource distribution as well as access to care.
The health system in Nigeria does not measure up to global standards, which is why individuals who can afford it, seek medical care elsewhere.Healthcare Infrastructure is considered to be a critical and essential part of the healthcare system.

The NNPC Medical Services Limited (NMSL) has the mandate to engage in businesses across the entire healthcare value chain using platforms such as HMO, strategic alliances, joint ventures partnerships, etc. aimed at improving skills, improving healthcare delivery, generating revenue and reversing medical tourism in Nigeria.

Therefore, NMSL offers comprehensive health care service that is both preventative and curative to their staff and dependents. However, they are looking at expanding their services by engaging investors /partners in order to have more healthcare facilities such as, expanding their customer base to include more dependents, corporate bodies, general public and to venture into manufacturing of healthcare products.

Introduction of Public-Private Partnerships can impact on quality, risk management, competition, and diversity. In time, this will provide service integration and an adequate welfare system thereby increasing the Return on Investment.
